New Lawyer Training

NEW LAWYER TRAINING

The Supreme Court of Ohio mandates that all new attorneys complete 12 hours of New Lawyer Training (NLT) by the end of their first biennial reporting period, including three hours of instruction in professionalism, law practice management and client funds management, and nine hours NLT instruction in one or more substantive areas of law.

Please Note: Attorneys may meet nine of the twelve required New Lawyers Training hours by participating in the Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program sponsored by the Commission on Professionalism.  Attorneys who participate in mentoring are required to complete an additional three classroom hours of instruction on professionalism, law office management, and client fund management.

The Akron Bar Association’s New Lawyer Training, held on December 6 – 7, 2016, was a hands-on, practical program designed to help new lawyers find their path in the practice of law. Presenters include local prominent attorneys and Akron Bar leadership. This 12 hour course satisfies Ohio’s New Lawyer Training requirement. Attorneys have the option of attending only first day which includes the Core Requirements (1 hour Professionalism, 1 hour Practice Management & 1 Hour Client Funds Management).

New Lawyer Training courses will be held throughout 2017. For more information and to register for New Lawyer Training, please visit our calendar of events.
